V8 Supercars: Holden Racing Team unveil Star Wars livery for Garth Tander at the Bathurst 1000
GARTH Tander will cross to the dark side for next month’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 but don’t worry Holden fans, the long-time ‘Team Red’ poster boy isn’t switching makes.
Instead, Tander’s Holden Racing Team machine will wear a special livery at the iconic V8 Supercars event to promote the upcoming new Star Wars film.
The No. 2 Commodore, set to be shared by Tander and Warren Luff, will switch its usual white for a menacing matt black scheme to promote Star Wars: The Force Awakens, set to hit cinemas on December 17.
The eye-catching look sees the team’s traditional ‘helmet and lion’ emblem swapped for leading character Kylo Ren and his lightsaber on one of the Holden’s flanks, and a First Order Stormtrooper on the other.
It will mark the team’s fifth livery of the 2015 season as HRT celebrates its 25th year in the sport.
Tander and Luff have some unfinished business at Mount Panorama, missing last year’s race after their car was destroyed in a crash during a practice session.
They head to Bathurst off the back of a solid finish at the Sandown 500 with Tander hoping to add another chapter to HRT’s storied history in The Great Race, 25 years on from the team’s maiden win in the event.
“Star Wars is the greatest movie franchise in history, so I know there will be a lot of interest around our livery from not only our loyal Holden V8 fans, but Star Wars fans globally,” Tander said.
“HRT is the most successful team ever at Mt Panorama and to carry the iconic film franchise on the car is extra incentive to add another Bathurst win to my tally.
“This is one battle I want the dark side to win.”

The livery is the first product of the new multi-year relationship between Holden and Disney announced late last month, with the unveiling the first of two announcements in the lead up to next month’s race.
“Today’s unveiling is just the first in a number of innovative activations we have planned in our recently announced association with The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand to promote the Star Wars franchise,” Simon McNamara, Holden’s Sponsorship and Motorsport Manager, said.
“We are excited as this is the first global activation for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Not only are we continuing to engage with our traditional and loyal fan base, but we are also opening up Holden and Supercars to all new audiences.”
Along with the new look, the team will also roll out Star Wars-themed merchandise including a 1:18 scale replica of the Bathurst racecar.
The Star Wars car will hit the track for the first time when V8 Supercars practice gets underway at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 on Thursday, October 8.
